Study in Genesis: Creational Norms PDF Print E-mail

Part of the goodness of Creation is its structure.  God has built certain Norms into His work, Norms which we must recognize and respect.  We are called to be conservationists of Creation, i.e.- to conserve these creational Norms.

Creational Norms are God-given ordinances established at the beginning of Creation.  They are incorporated in authoritative Special Revelation (the written Word of God) as well as confirmed by General Revelation found in Nature itself.  The Norms are codified in the Torah, God’s Law.

I.  The General Principle: “You must distinguish”

Leviticus 11:47 You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between living creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten.'

Leviticus 20:25 You must make a distinction between clean and unclean animals and between unclean and clean birds. Do not defile yourselves by any animal or bird or anything that moves along the ground-those which I have set apart as unclean for you.

Leviticus 19':19 Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.  Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.

Deuteronomy 22:9 Do not plant two kinds of seed in your vineyard; if you do, not only the crops you plant but also the fruit of the vineyard will be defiled. 10 Do not plow with an ox and a donkey yoked together.11 Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.

Racism and Scripture PDF Print E-mail

The teaching in the article above about Scriptural Separation has been terribly twisted and misused through out History, especially in support of Racism.  People have claimed this Teaching and verse such as those used in the above essay to support discrimination or segregation of peoples and to prevent members of different skin color or ethnicity from marrying each other.  intermarriage of so-called “races

Racism is commonly defined as believing or acting as though there are inherent biological differences among the various  races which determine cultural or individual achievement, with a view that one's own “Race” or People  is genetically superior and has the right to oppress the others.

The Creation narrative makes it clear, there is only one human “Race” and Acts 17:26 says [God] made from one man every nation (Grk: ethnos= people group, not the modern nation-state) of mankind to live on all the face of the earth.  God made many people or ethnic groups (ethne), but only One Race!
This means “interbreeding (mixing) of races” is actually impossible.  Scripture forbids the interbreeding of different “Species”.  All people are members of the same species. Racism, as defined above, is without any Biblical warrant whatsoever.  It is strictly a social construct as well as a social evil.

Welcome to Re/FORMED LIVING!

This website is the portal to the writing of Calvin (Cal) Fox.   I hope you will browse and discover material that will be interesting and helpful to living a Re/Formed life, that is, a life being formed by the Word of God in all aspects!  Pro Rege!

My Theology is grounded in the Bible as primarily understood by the 16th Century Reformers, especially John Calvin.  Calvinism is far more than the 5 famous doctrines having to do with Salvation.  It is about the Sovereignty of God over all and is actually far more: a World View to live by.  That worldview was developed by the Dutch Theologian, Abraham Kuyper(1837-1920), who proclaimed, “there is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: ‘Mine!’" and it is known as Kuyperism or Neo-Calvinism

On my Bio page is a list of the key principles of Neo-Calvinism.  On this Front page you can find  links on the bar at the top to my essays in several Categories: EcclesiastiCAL (church related topics, mostly from an Anglican perspective), TheologiCAL (theological topics), Re/formation Institute (articles on a variety of academic subjects such as Economics and Government) and also to my Blog,  Dutch Treat, and my devotional writing called QT Thots.

Begin by clicking on one of the Topics on the Menu bar at the top of the page then click again on subtopics.   Notice the space provided for Searching the site below the Menu Bar.  There is provision for your comments.  Please do me the courtesy of using your real name if you do comment.  Icons at the top of each Essay enable you to turn it into a PFD  or to mail or print it.

My indispensable partner in setting all of this up is Norm Gosselin, webmaster and son-in-law!  We welcome suggestions for improvements.  We will be making them as we go along.  We do this as a serious Ministry for the King (Pro Rege) and appreciate your prayers.  We hope you will recommend the site to others.

Thanks for visiting!!
