Unlimited God and Fallen Human Nature Means Limited Government

GOD is Sovereign.  He has the freedom and power to do anything He wills. Though transcendent and without personal limits, God is also immanent and involved in all that happens in the world He has made which is limited.  Our Political views must begin with this Truth of God's Sovereignty. If we do begin there, we realize that Government must be limited and not allowed to be as "god" in the lives of anyone.

Although we are all created by God and in His Image, we human are seriously flawed. For one thing, our will is in bondage to a "Sin" within.  Note the capital letter.  All humans are born under the control of an internal and irresistible drive [Sin] that compels them to sin against God, others and themselves.  This Doctrine about Human Nature has political ramifications.  It too requires limits or restraints on people and on human-run Government.

Trust in unlimited Government and belief in the right of personal, unlimited freedom for all People is evidence of faulty, inadequate and unbiblical views of both God and Humans. Those views are what lies behind the ongoing "progressive" revision and interpretation of the Constitution. 

In spite of spiritual bondage to Sin, Freedom is a major value pursued by human beings everywhere.  All people long to be "free". We seem to value "freedom" above all else, The most important thing Americans believe about our Military is that they give their lives to secure our Freedom or Liberty.


Definition of Personal (social) Freedom

Freedom is the ability to act voluntarily; to will or chose as one wishes, in the absence of coercion. BUT, in society, personal or political freedom or liberty must not deprive others of the same freedom.  Our personal freedom must always be limited by that of others. To make that happen in practice, as a Nation of millions, requires Government. Government may be defined as an "order-keeping" State that makes freedom for all possible. The Preamble of our Constitution declares this is the very reason why the Constitution was written-

We the People of the United States, in Order to ... secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The State maintains liberty for all, but must violate the freedom of none. This is one of the most fundamental Political Principles incorporated in our Constitution.

Bible  teaches about spiritual freedom from bondage to the Law, Sin, Death and the Devil. It also
has a lot to say about Political and Social Freedom, particularly about liberation from imprisonment, exile, debt, slavery, enemies and oppression.  And all that Scripture is relevant to our Subject of the Constitution.  However, the Bible adds that liberation is in order for human beings (and Nations) to be able to obey God and live as He wills.  Freedom is never an end in itself or intended for self-indulgence. 

Galations 5:1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. 13 you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Romans 6:22 you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God

Luke 1:74  being delivered from the hand of our enemies,[so that we] might serve Him
