Last time we focused on Satan’s deception and temptation of Eve. It is too easy for us to be deceived about the meaning of this story in Genesis 2-3 and to give in to the temptation to dismiss the importance of it. That would be a major mistake. If this story is taken seriously, it would change our entire system of education. It would change how we go about planning our lives and making all our decisions

The Bible says- Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who obtains understanding. (Pro. 3:13)  Wisdom is supreme – so acquire wisdom ... acquire understanding! (Prov.4:7)

What is Wisdom?

In the Bible, Wisdom is a way of viewing and approaching life, which involved instructing the young in proper conduct and morality and answering the philosophical questions about life's meaning. The word translated as "wisdom" can simply mean skill, especially the practical skills that go with designing and organizing a project. In the Old Testament wisdom at one level describes skilled arts, like goldsmiths ( Jer 10:9 ) and artisans, like weavers ( Exod 35:25-26) and architects ( Exod 35:30-36:1 ).

[But] "The major thrust of wisdom in the Old Testament was a code of moral conduct. This is especially represented by the Book of Proverbs, which gives instruction on personal behavior ... The goal of wisdom was to build an orderly and functional society that reflected the moral requirements of God as set forth in the law of Moses."

[In the Bible] The terms "wisdom" and "wise" apply to men and women who represent a way of thinking and conduct that is orderly, socially sensitive, and morally upright. Thus, the major thrust of wisdom in the Old Testament was a code of moral conduct. Source Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology

And where can we find Wisdom?

Pro. 2:6 the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

Pro 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

Psalm 111:6 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;

Psalm 51:6 you delight in truth in the inward being and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

Job 28:12 "But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? 13 … it is not found in the land of the living. 15 It cannot be bought for gold, and silver cannot be weighed as its price. 20 "From where, then, does wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding? 23 "God understands the way to it, and he knows its place. 24 For he looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. 28 And he said to man, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom…

Review: Humanity (male and female), created by God in His Image, has a Cultural Mandate from God: Men and Women, working together as equal partners, are to use their Rational powers , Creative abilities, Moral character, need for community and their Spiritual nature

1. To multiply and fill the earth spread out around the globe as God’s stewards

2. To subdue and rule, the earth, cultivating its natural resources for the benefit of all

All this was meant to be normal and this Plan has never expired. BUT something happened to greatly impede and undermine it. That “something” is the fact that Adam and Eve broke the Covenant, the relationship, they enjoyed with God. They rebelled against the Creator and sought to live autonomous lives on their own terms. This led to dire consequences. Adam’s sin was willful disobedience. Romans 5:19 He sinned by breaking a command. Rom 5:14 More than that, Adam… transgressed the covenant; [he] dealt faithlessly with [God]. See Hosea 6:7

Last time we considered the problem of Death: separation/alienation on 5 levels: spiritual, psychological, social, environmental and physical. There is another serious consequence of Adam and Eve’s disobedience.  This is “The Curse” (Gen 3:14-19)

Three things are “blessed” in this story of Creation: 1:22 Creatures that fly and that live in the water (1:22) and Adam & Eve (1:28) The Sabbath (2:3). The “blessing” from God is a promise of fertility, abundance and well- being. On the other hand, to be “Cursed” by God is the opposite: denial or removal of His Blessing.

This portion of Scripture may be considered a description or a prescription- prediction or penalty. It is a crucial distinction. I am convinced it must be read as prescription or penalty: God says because of their action, this is the way it shall be. (see the verbs in vss 13,14-17 and 2:24 and 6:7,13; 9:2 et al)

ISSUES THE CHURCH MUST FACE PDF Print E-mail
Ecclesiastical - Today's Issues and Trends

This post by James White is spot on about the major changes that the Church in American reckon with and respond to

*Expansion of Christianity. In the next 35 years 4 out of 5 Christians will live outside Western Nation.  The universal church shall be non-white.  Most of the Church shall be African, Asian and Latin American

*The rise of Islam.  There will be as many Muslims as Christians.  Will they be moderate like most American  Muslims or will they be more like ISIS Muslims?

*China is changing.  Will it be dominated by a Dictator, by National Socialism, Buddhism or the now underground  Church?

*And finally, most important to my mind, are the radical changes in Marriage and Family
